MDC Alliance women assembly national secretary for mobilisation Vongai Tome was on Tuesday detained at Harare Central Police station after she was allegedly s_xually molested by a police officer.
According to the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, Tome was s_xually molested by a police officer at Harare Magistrate Court during MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe’s court appearance.
She was arrested for disorderly conduct and violating COVID-19 regulations. The Forum said in a statement:
Police at Harare Central Police station on 6 April 2021 detained a woman who was s_xually molested by a police officer at Harare Magistrate Court during MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe’s court appearance.
The woman, Vongai Tome, now faces charges of disorderly conduct and violating COVID-19 regulations.
She is expected to appear in court on 8 April. She is being represented by lawyers from the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum.
