ZRP Rounds Up 31 Shipping Agents At Beitbridge Border Post
ZRP Officers yesterday reportedly rounded up 31 shipping agents at Beitbridge Border Post and accused them of being unwanted elements in a protected area, Newsday reports.
The agents who are classified as critical service providers as they help clear cargo at the port of entry were detained, a move that reportedly caused congestion at the border according to sources that spoke to the publication.
Among the arrested shipping agents, were 2 truck drivers, and when the shipping agents tried to show their identity cards the law police officers said they cannot read.
Chairperson of the Transporters Association in Beitbridge, Osbert Shumba said they were not going to be intimidated by law enforcement agents as they are ready to go to court:
Government has recognised us as essential services. We will not pay fines. We are ready to go to court
