Madzibaba Accused Of Raping, And Kidnapping Girl (16) From Police Station
The family of a 16-year-old girl from Mutoko, who was employed as a maid in Chitungwiza and has been missing since Saturday last week, has expressed frustration over the manner in which St Mary’s police handled her alleged rape.
A neighbour who preferred anonymity told Pindula that the girl (name supplied) was raped by one Madzibaba Dhafiero who worships at the Braeside shrine after her mother had sent her for an errand.
He said the girl was sent to Mupedzanhamo to buy some stock several weeks ago and as soon as she left home, the accused offered her a lift in his Toyota Fortuner, saying he was going in the same direction. He said:
However, she did not suspect that Madzibaba had a sinister agenda. So when they were at the CA police station, instead of driving towards Harare, he drove towards Leisure Centre, telling the girl that he wanted to see someone there.
Madzibaba then made a payment at the entrance and they drove inside. He then took her to a room, locked her in and forced himself on the girl. Her torn undergarments which are proof the girl was raped are available.

In a telephone call with Pindula, the girl’s employer, who declined to have her name divulged, corroborated what her neighbour said.
She said the matter only came to light after the girl fell pregnant and she told her that Madzibaba was responsible, but was raped.
The girl was allegedly physically assaulted by the accused’s wife after she was made aware of the rape incident.
The accused is alleged to have forced himself on his wife’s 13-year-old young sister some years back and the alleged rape resulted in a pregnancy that was terminated.
The girl’s employer, who is the complainant, attempted to report the matter to St Mary’s Police on Saturday but Madzibaba is alleged to have hired a mob to waylay him just before the police station which prompted him to return home to find backup while the girl went on her own to the police station.
By the time the complainant and his neighbours arrived at the police station, the girl had already vanished from the scene and the officers on duty reportedly said they didn’t want to be bothered with a “trivial” issue.
The complainant alleged that the police officers on duty did not open a docket but handed over the girl to the alleged rapist’s uncle saying the two “were in love”.
He further alleged that they were told to go to the Police Victim Friendly Unit where they were told that the issue was difficult since it involved other police officers.
They were told to return to the Charge Office and inquire about the identities of the officers who were on duty when the girl disappeared.
The Officer In Charge allegedly told the complainant to report the girl as a missing person and were given a reference number and told to go home.
They are now worried about the girl’s safety as she reportedly incurred some injuries following the assault by the accused’s wife.
Meanwhile, the accused is reported to have left his home and is staying at an undisclosed location with his alleged victim.
Pindula reached out to Madzibaba Dhaifero, real name Ambition Mberikunashe who denied kidnapping the girl from the police.
Mberikunashe said he was married to the girl and there was no way he would harm her.
The complainant suspect that the police officers who were on duty were bribed by the accused for him to escape arrest.
The Officer In Charge told this publication that he was eager to interview the victim and her employer as there were inconsistencies reported over the issue.
