MSD Weather Report And Forecast – 21 March To 22 March 2021

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON SUNDAY 21 MARCH 2021 VALID UNTIL MONDAY 22 MARCH 2021.

PREAMBLE

The moisture field of the weak cloud affecting the western parts of the country caused isolated thunderstorms over Matabeleland North with 18 mm in Lupane being the only notable rainfall figure recorded this morning.

However, moist winds have begun to strengthen over the south-east coast of Southern Africa.
As if to celebrate International Day of Forests, these winds are being steered into the country through Gonarezhou National Park (more than 5’000 km2 of Savannah thriving with wildlife).

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW MONDAY 22 MARCH 2021: Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland provinces should be windy with cloudy conditions over Beitbridge, Mwenezi, Chiredzi and Chipinge from early morning.

These cloudy conditions should spread into other parts of these provinces towards noon with light showers in places.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected over Matabeleland North, into Mashonaland West, Central and Harare Metropolitan. Mild at first becoming warm by afternoon with brief cloudy periods.

Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, and Mashonaland East Provinces should be mostly sunny warm by the afternoon, becoming mild towards evening.

IMPACTS

  • Lightning can still strike from a distant cloud when the skies above you are mostly blue and cloudless (This is commonly called a “bolt from the blue”).
  • Temperature fluctuations may have a negative impact on poultry
  • Crops might show signs of moisture stress

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • Remember when you are close enough to hear thunder less than 30 seconds after you see lightning then you are close enough to get struck. It is safer to seek shelter in a closed building when this occurs.
  • Keep hydrated, drink adequate amounts of water daily.
  • Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustment made.
  • Farmer with crops that still need significant amounts of water should plan with irrigation in mind.

NB: Pfumvudza plots are easy to irrigate even by hand.
