We feel we are here to contribute to the development of the country. Speaking entirely for myself, I am not position-oriented. I know some people will say Gutu wants this post or that post, that’s far from it.

He stepped down as MDC spokesperson in 2018 citing disagreements with MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa on how to run the affairs of the party.

Gutu who has since then been critical of his homeboy Nelson Chamisa a stance some say was out of jealousy or because he was a ZANU PF agent.

He once served as Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs during the inclusive Government (2009-2013).

He assumed the vice presidency of the MDC-T  then led by Thokozani Khupe following the split that occurred when MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai succumbed to cancer in 2018.

Gutu joined ZANU PF together with James Makore after more former MDC members had joined.

Some analysts argue that the ruling party might have used kompromat which is a threat to expose one’s underhand dealings or blackmailing, in general, to compel Gutu to quit MDC therefore he had no other choice.
