Police Fire "Live Bullets" As Angry Mthwakazi Activists Besiege Police Station

Bulawayo Central Police Station officers reportedly fired live bullets on Wednesday to disperse angry Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) activists who had stormed the station protesting over the alleged harassment of their leader Mqondisi Moyo by state security agents.

New Zimbabwe reports that police and army officers in civilian clothing reportedly raided Moyo’s home Tuesday night with the intention of arresting him.

However, Moyo was not there during the raid. The raid prompted a response from Mthwakazi activists besieged the Police Station Wednesday morning.

The publication further reports that the activists who were travelling in a white truck branded with MRP’s logos started singing and dancing at the police station’s driveway entrance.

They went on to burn tyres in front of the police station and threw stones at the building and police officers.

Speaking from his hideout, Mthwakazi president told New Zimbabwe that the police responded almost 30 minutes later by firing live bullets at the activists and the crowd immediately dispersed. Moyo told NewZimbabwe:

Khethani Nxebalendonda Ndlovu has been shot on the left leg with live bullets. So far, 10 of our members have been arrested.

Moyo’s whereabouts are still not known.

It is reported that on Monday, Mthwakazi members raided a Tabas Induna Farm in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North province where they tried to evict Floyd Ambrose from the property accusing him of forcibly taking it from a white farmer, Brian Davies.

Ambrose who is the son-in-law to former Vice President Kembo Mohadi allegedly took the property from Davies by force defying court orders.
