Zimbabwe Donates US$26K To Zambian Memorial School

Zimbabwe has donated US$26.344 for the construction of two classroom blocks at Kavalamanja memorial primary school in Zambia.

The donation was confirmed Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Zambia Charity Charamba.

Reports suggest that the money was handed over to Zambia’s Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Fredrick Phiri.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa studied law and worked for some time in Zambia after his family was deported from Rhodesia in the early 1960s.

Zambia’s Deputy Army Commander, Dennis Sitali said the role which Zambia played in the liberation struggle for Zimbabwe was a significant undertaking that continues to strengthen relations between the two countries.

According to Sitali, the support during the liberation struggle led to the deaths of Zambians in Kavalamanja and Kakaro villages in Luangwa district in Lusaka province at the hands of Rhodesian forces.

Zimbabwe donates to the Zambian school when a number of local schools are in shambles with many stakeholders urging the government and sympathisers to take befitting action.

The Parliament of Zimbabwe recently confronted the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Ambassador Cain Mathema demanding answers as to why grade 7 results were so poor.

While some observers are blaming the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, some believe the digital divide between rural and urban schools was a major variable especially considering that the new curriculum emphasises the use of information communication technologies (ICTs).

With the schools physically closed, some learning institutions offered online classes and that was impossible for rural schools.
