JUST IN: 62 Health Workers Contract Covid-19 In Kwekwe

Health and Child Care Deputy Minister, Dr. John Mangwiro Tuesday announced that 62 health workers tested positive for COVID-19 in Kwekwe.

Dr. Mangwiro made the remarks while officially launching the Midlands vaccination programme in Kwekwe where he indicated that of the 62 workers, 42 have since recovered and 20 were still self-isolating and not well. He added:

The vaccination programme is targeting frontline workers and I encourage all of you to take the vaccine to protect yourselves. Frontlines are the main target for the first phase as they are the ones exposed to the virus.

Zimbabwe acquired the Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccines which it is administering to frontline workers first since last week.

Dr Mangwiro also toured a number of isolations centres in Kwekwe and Redcliff after which he expressed dismay over the non-availability of oxygen at most of the intensive care (ICU) units.  He directed that “oxygen should be made available as soon as possible in all institutions.”

This is happening when national coronavirus cases recorded per day have been dropping in the recent past.
