Mpofu Declared National Hero... Kanhanga Replaces Shiri In Politburo

The ZANU PF politburo on Wednesday declared the late former police Deputy Commissioner Moses Griffiths Mpofu who died last week, a national hero.

This was revealed by ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu soon after the meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Harare. Said Mpofu:

The Politburo has unanimously declared ZRP Deputy Commissioner (Retired) Cde Griffiths Mpofu as a national hero after considering the role he played during the liberation struggle and his position in the police force before his retirement.

He was consistent through and through and was very patriotic until the time of his death.

Mpofu, who retired from the police force in December 2003, died last Friday at United Bulawayo Hospitals after a long illness.

In another development, Brigadier-General (Retired) Walter Epmarcus Kanhanga was appointed to the Politburo as a Committee member replacing the late national hero Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Perrance Shiri in Mashonaland Central.

ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Simon Khaya Moyo confirmed the latest development after Wednesday’s Politburo meeting. He said:

The Politburo welcomed the President’s appointment of Cde Brigadier General (Rtd) Walter Kanhanga as a Politburo member (Committee Member) replacing the late Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri (Rtd) in Mashonaland Central.
