Mwonzora Moves To Bar Chamisa From Using MDC Alliance Name

The MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora says it has started a process to stop the Nelson Chamisa-led party from using the MDC Alliance name.

This was revealed by MDC-T chairperson Morgen Komichi while giving a speech on the third anniversary of the late MDC founding father Morgan Tsvangirai’s death on Sunday. Komichi said:

The name MDC Alliance is ours. We are going to stop those who are using the name.

We have a legal position which says MDC Alliance is our name. Anyone who is using it is misguided.

We have started the process to stop them from using the name and I cannot tell you our strategies. They must come up with a name of their own.

Komichi also sensationally claimed that his faction has inherited everything that belonged to Tsvangirai, including his wives and supporters. He said:

The fact that we are here at Harvest House (Morgan Tsvangirai House) means that we are the original MDC, everything that belonged to Tsvangirai is ours, this is our party, councillors and MPs are ours.

We inherited everything that belongs to Tsvangirai.

In July, George Charamba, who is the Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), hinted that the MDC Alliance will be interdicted from using the “MDC ” brand.

Since a controversial Supreme Court ruling in March 2020 nullified Chamisa’s election as MDC-T president in February 2018 soon after Tsvangirai’s death, the party has been on a rampage, expelling elected MDC Alliance MPs and Councillors and replacing them with individuals who were rejected by voters in the previous general election.
