Esther Massundah Tested Negative For COVID-19 - NBSZ

The National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has dismissed reports which suggest that its spokesperson, Esther Massundah succumbed to COVID-19 saying she actually tested negative.

The National Blood Service Zimbabwe issued a statement after reports which said Esther Massundah had died of COVID-19 related complications. Below is NBSZ’s statement:

Death Notice of Esther Massundah

NBSZ dismisses claims by some sections of the media, that COVID-19 related complications are the cause of death of Ms Esther Massundah who passed on, today, 09 February 2021. Like all deaths in the country, swabs were taken for COVID-19 tests. According to a COVID-19 Laboratory report of tests done at CIMAS MedLabs, she was COVID-19 Negative. We now await the post rnortem results Mr the actual cause of death.

While we appreciate the role of the media of disseminating information to the public, the health crisis brought about by COVID-19 has generated a heightened need for information as a response to a situation of uncertainty. Hence, Correct/Accurate news around COVID-19 is a key part of the overall response to the pandemic. In the meantime, lets continue to observe all COVID 19 precautionary measures as laid out by the Zimbabwe govemment.
