Police Arrest Over 400 000 Lockdown Violators

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says nearly 10 000 people were arrested countrywide within three days for violating national lockdown regulations and this brings to over 400 000 the number of people arrested since 30 March 2020.

In a statement this Monday morning, police said they arrested 3 459 people on Friday, 3 641 on Saturday and 2 848 on Sunday for violating the stay at home order. The Statement read:

Since the onset of the national lockdown on 30 March 2020, a cumulative total of 403 544 people have been arrested for violating national lockdown measures.

Most of those arrested were in violation of movement restrictions. Members of the public are advised to comply with the measures put in place by the Government to reduce the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Early this year, the government imposed a strict Level Four lockdown to control an upsurge in coronavirus infections.
