ZUPCO Starts Charging Fares In Forex

ZUPCO has reportedly started charging fares in foreign currency alongside RTGS Dollar for its urban routes, the Chronicle reports

According to the publication, the parastatal was reportedly charging R5 or Dollar for 2 on the ZUPCO buses and $1 or R10 for the omnibuses yesterday.

ZUPCO hiked their fares last month and commuters are now paying between ZWL $30 and $60 on urban routes.

This means the bus company is effectively charging commuters who use the omnibuses $22 more than the stipulated fare if they use the RBZ exchange rate of $1 being equal to $82.

The government is yet to comment on the development.
