MDC Alliance Willing To Talk To ZANU PF - Biti

MDC Alliance vice president Tendai Biti said the country’s largest opposition party is willing to negotiate with the ruling ZANU PF party to find a lasting solution to the country’s political and economic challenges.

Speaking during an interview with NewsDay, Biti said the MDC Alliance was open to dialogue with the ruling party without any conditionalities. Said Biti:

We are prepared to talk to them without any conditionality, we haven’t said Emmerson Mnangagwa must cease to be President before we talk to him, we haven’t said that, but having said that, no one can seduce us to accept a lie and accept processes that were against our Constitution.

The coup of November 2017 and the election of 2018 is a fact, but that is not a roadblock to dialogue, and we are ready for dialogue with our friends and compatriots at Zanu PF, because the people of Zimbabwe out there demand that.

Biti, however, said the MDC Alliance would not entertain talks with their erstwhile colleagues in the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora whom he accused of being ZANU PF puppets.

The MDC Alliance has hitherto challenged Mnangagwa’s legitimacy following the contested 2018 presidential election and in turn, ZANU PF has refused to entertain the opposition party until it acknowledges that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is legitimate.

MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa has also refused to be part of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), a dialogue platform established by Mnangagwa to include all the presidential contestants in the 2018 elections.
