Mutare Residents Push For More Covid Testing Centres

Mutare residents have called upon Mutare City Council to consider decentralising the COVID-19 voluntary testing centres to places of residence.

Mutare Residents and Ratepayers’ Association’s Mildred Muzanechita told Business Times that it has become difficult for residents to access the designated centres due to the lockdown imposed by the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Said Muzanechita:

As residents, we would have appreciated a situation where the council has other centres all over the city and places of residence.

As it is, it is difficult to travel to the established centres given the movement limitations set by the government.

The City of Mutare in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Childcare embarked on COVID-19 testing for willing residents beginning last week.

Currently, the testing is done at three centres, Queens Hall in the city, Sakubva Beit Hall and Dangamvura Beit Hall.

Mutare City Council spokesperson Spren Mtiwi said authorities are currently engaged with the issue and as soon as some logistical issues addressed, more COVID-19 centres will be rolled out close to where people reside.
