Zimbabwe Still To Secure Vaccines Under The COVAX Scheme

Speaking during an interview with The Anchor, Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube said the government is yet to secured a vaccine under the Africa Union’s COVAX schemes as they are still in conversation with other parties.

Said the treasury boss:

We are having conversations around the COVAX initiative, around the AU initiative which has already sourced 270 million shots of the vaccines and our share is in there.

We are in conversations with the private sector for them to lend support in bolstering our resources so that it can truly a shared national project in terms of acquiring the vaccines

The private sector has pledged to vaccinate their employees and even promised to buy twice their vaccine requirement and donate the other 50% to the government.

Last week President Mnangagwa said help was on the way during his national address and said they were speaking to different vaccine manufacturers.
