Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume Reinstated

MDC Alliance Councillor Advocate Jacob Mafume has been reinstated as the Harare Mayor. According to The NewsHawks, Mafume, Deputy Mayor Luckson Mkunguma, and Antony Shingadeya were reinstated today by the Acting Local Government minister Jenfan Muswere who had suspended them for their alleged participation in the illegal sale of land.

Mafume who is out on $40 000 bail had been suspended together with 5 other councilors on allegations of gross incompetence and misconduct of duty and they were facing criminal abuse of office charges.

Mafume was first arrested by Special Anti Corruption Unit (SACU)and was granted bail before he was rearrested on charges of interfering with witnesses and detained for close to 30 days. He was suspended during his second incarceration.
