COVID-19: 99 In Intensive Care And Severe Units

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care has reported that as of 21 January 2021, COVID-19 patients in the severe and intensive care units, in that order, were 81 and 18.

The Ministry also reported in its COVID-19 daily updates that the country had recorded 639 new coronavirus cases and 38 deaths in the past 24 hours.

This pushes the total number of cases recorded to 30 047 while the death toll rises to 917.

While a total of 99 patients are in two units: severe and intensive care units, 272 of all the 639 new cases recorded were hospitalised while 173 were mild.

Harare recorded the highest number of new cases (293) and deaths (14). New deaths were recorded in eight provinces as follows:

There has been a surge in coronavirus cases and deaths in Zimbabwe since the end of last year with some attributing the spike to complacency during the festive holidays.
