President @JoeBiden rejoining the Paris Agreement is hugely positive news. In the year we host @COP26 in Glasgow, I look forward to working with our US partners to do all we can to safeguard our planet.

Trump announced on June 1, 2017, that the United States would cease all participation in the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change mitigation, and begin negotiations to re-enter the agreement “on terms that are fair to the United States, its businesses, its workers, its people, its taxpayers,” or form a new agreement.

In withdrawing from the agreement, Trump stated that “The Paris accord will undermine (the U.S.) economy,” and “puts (the U.S.) at a permanent disadvantage.”

Trump stated that the withdrawal would be in accordance with his America First policy.

The Paris Climate Agreement is a pact between nearly 200 nations to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to fight climate change.

The U.S., the world’s second-largest emitter of carbon, would be required to reduce fossil fuel emissions nearly 30 percent by 2025.

Biden is set to reverse a number of policies and allegedly views returning to the 2015 Paris Accord as a way to contribute to fighting climate change.
