Tropical Storm Eloise Approaching Mozambique, Expected To Intensify As It Approaches South Africa - Report

Tropical Strom Eloise which made landfall in the North-eastern town of Antalaha is Madagascar last night is now approaching Mozambique according to the Meteorology Services Department  Of Zimbabwe (MSD).

The MSD said the storm is expected to make landfall in Mozambique tomorrow morning:

CYCLONE ELOISE is currently affecting the Northern parts of Madagascar from AMBILOBE AIRPORT down to TOAMASINA AIRPORT.

TOMORROW MORNING, 21JANUARY 2021;

It should start leaving Madagascar as it enters the MOZAMBICAN CHANNEL.

However Heavy Thunderstorms with Rain CURRENTLY pounding the following areas;
Checheche in Chipinge( the heavy rain is coming from Machasi in Mozambique); Areas bordered by Gwanda ,Guyu , Mazunga , Nuanetsi , Neshuro , Ndanga and Emfelabuso.AND Areas bordered by Binga , Chireya , Karoi and Kariba.

OVERALLY moderate rain is covering Manicaland , Masvingo ( to just before Bulawayo) , Midlands and the northern parts from Mutoko via Mash. Central down to VicFalls.

However, weather experts in South Africa have warned that the storm might intensify and develop into a cyclone as it approaches South Africa. Professor of Climatology at the Global Change Institute, Francois Engelbrecht spoke to eNCA and said:

Right now for South Africa, if the storm is going to follow this track into Southern Mozambique and then towards our eastern escarpment in the North East, some parts of our Limpopo province and then southwards along the escarpment in Mpumalanga all the way to Swaziland, these areas [are] getting 100mm of rainfall on Sunday and Monday

This comes barely a month after Cyclone Chalane hit parts of Madagascar, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe barely 2 years after the devastating Cyclone Idai which led to the deaths of hundreds of people.
