FULL TEXT: Chinese Embassy Releases A Statement On The Viral Video Of A Chinese Man Assaulting A Local Man

The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe has released a statement after a video of a Chinese man assaulting a local man went viral on social media.

ZimLive reports that the Chinese man was identified as Zhong Yi Zhang, who is believed to be the owner of Hope Foundations’s Fools Investment Mine.

The Chinese Embassy in the statement said people should wait till the truth of the matter is established. The embassy went on to state that it was wrong to hold the entire Chinese Community responsible based on the unclear incident:

The Chinese Embassy has taken note of a short video circulating by some on social media purportedly showing a fight between a local man and his employers.

The Chinese Embassy supports a fair and transparent handling of all violations of law by the Zimbabwean authorities, regardless of whom is involved.

It is important that a complete and truthful account of the incident is made available. Trial by some on social media, based on partial information in a video of only 25 seconds, is not helpful.

The whole truth of the incident has not been established; it is wrong and dangerous to hold the entire Chinese community for what happens in this unclear incident

It is not clear of the incident on the 25 minutes video was reported to the police. Early last year, a Chinese national shot and injured 2 mine workers in Gweru during a salary dispute.
