Chin'ono Is A Suspected COVID-19 Case, He Should Be Kept In Prison - Prosecutor

The public prosecutor prosecuting Hopewell Chin’ono’s case has said they want to keep Chi’ono in prison because he is a suspected COVID-19 case and keeping him in custody will ensure the public’s safety.

This was posted by Heart and Soul TV which is closely following the case at the Harare Magistrate court tight now. HSTV tweeted:

We deny him bail because he is suspected to have #covid19Zim so to keep everyone safe we need to keep him in prison. We need to get him proper medical examination says state.

Chin’ono was arrested on charges of tweeting falsehoods and according to law experts the law they are using to charge Chin’ono with was struck off from the statute by the constitutional court in 2014.

HSTV also updated the nation about how the court session progressed and said:

….State applies to have @daddyhope placed on remand – state says he is a freelance journalist who published false statement to members of the public. He knew the state was false

State said @daddyhope intended to undermine the police. State reads statement which does not exist and attributed it to @daddyhope . Upon being challenged state withdraws statement. Says it’s opposed to accused being granted bail.

Court says wants to roll over the matter to Monday because there is no time. Lawyer submits that @daddyhope should be heard today because the arrest is even illegal in the first instance.
