Don't Be Inhuman Open Beitbridge Border And Let Those People In - EFF's Ndlozi

EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has urged the authorities to open the Beitbridge border as he said closing it will breed a much bigger humanitarian crisis that COVID-19.

Ndlozi using the microblogging site Twitter described the situation as inhuman and said the people who are being held up at the border are part of us.

In a series of Tweets Ndlozi said:

Please open the boarders from Zim, Lesotho & Mozambique!!! They not bringing Covid; they left it here & will find it here. Let them in. It’s not fair – they live here. They are from here. They are part of us! Or you will be dealing with the worst humanitarian crisis than Covid!

This #CloseBeitbridgeBorder hashtag must be rejected with all the contempt it deserves! Let our people in. They are part of us! They live here and have been living here for centuries! Closing the boarder is inhuman & will breed the worst humanitarian crisis than Covid-19!

During Lockdown Level 5 last year we were with our bothers & sisters from Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Botswana & Mozambique. We flattened Covid curve together! It’s lockdowns, social distancing, masks & sanitisers that help us reduce Covid-19 infections. NOT abuse of foreign nationals!

SADC is breeding a big humanitarian crisis on South African borders. How can these governments look at masses of African people, body to body, flocking into SA required to give Covid-19 certificates they know well no single country on the continent has capacity to produce??

Ndlozi also took a jab at President Mnangagwa and urged him to take mobile COVID-19 testing centers to Beitbridge to enable people to be tested on-site. President Mnangagwa had tweeted that Zimbabwe was going into a second lockdown when Ndlozi said:

Videos of thousands of Zimbabweans holed up at the Beitbridge border have been circulating on social media after it emerged authorities stopped admitting people without permits into South Africa for various reasons.
