Zimbabwe Records 242 COVID-19 Cases In 24 Hours

242 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus yesterday. This was communicated by the Ministry of Health in an update that also stated that 3 people succumbed to the virus yesterday.

The Ministry noted that all 242 positive cases were local transmission no returnee tested positive for the virus. The Ministry said:

242 new cases and 3 deaths reported in the past 24 hours. All 242 cases were local cases. Deaths were reported in Masvingo Mashonaland East and Harare.

The update came a day after Zimbabwe recorded 300 new cases on 30 December which might be the last quarter’s all-time high as the country most probably goes through the virus’ second wave.

The government has suspended the reopening of schools after the aggressive resurgence of the virus that has killed 363 Zimbabweans since the first case was reported on 20 March 2020.
