Govt 'Notes' Mbare Coronavirus 'Superspreader' Concert
The government has said it has noted with concern circulating pictures and videos “purportedly” showing large crowds at an event in Mbare on New Year’s Eve.
In a statement on Friday evening, the Information Ministry secretary Nick Mangwana said such gatherings are not only illegal but potential coronavirus superspreaders.
Mangwana added that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has since been alerted and will issue a statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, former Herald editor Ceaser Zvayi has questioned police’s role or lack thereof in allowing the music concert to go ahead at a time the country is under a coronavirus-induced lockdown and curfew. He commented on Twitter:

Freelance journalist Hopewell Chin’ono said the government should not pretend that it was not aware of the gala. He also commented on Twitter:
@daddyhope would like to inform Government that this event happened less than 100 meters away from Matapi Police Station.
The government should not pretend to be ignorant of this self-evident fact. Furthermore, the Government should not use the world “purportedly.”
