SA Private Hospital Sets Up Emergency Area In The Parking Lot As Number Of Patients Surge

A private hospital in South Africa’s Pretoria has erected a 10-bed emergency area in the hospital basement as the number of people seeking medical attention surge due to the COVID-19 second wave being experienced in the country, Times Live reports.

According to the publication, Eugene Marais Hospital has to augment the problem on their hands by having an emergency holding area in the basement to limit delays in treating patience arriving with emergencies.

Speaking about the development,  the life center’s regional manager Johan Holder said:

Human resources and equipment are under pressure and there are limitations on the number of patients that can be accommodated within our hospital.

With the second surge, we are seeing a significant increase in Covid-19 admissions; however, we continue to care for patients who require medical treatment outside of Covid-19 related care.

The hospital will for now, halt elective surgery to cater for the influx of patience they are recording as the virus’s second wave hits Zimbabwe’s southern neighbor. South Africa has recorded 1.3 Million cases since the onset of the pandemic in March.
