JUST IN: SA Returns To Stricter Level 3 Lockdown

South Africa has returned to stricter alert level 3 lockdown as COVID-19 infections surpass 1-million mark. Announcing the restrictions, President Cyril Ramaphosa pleaded with South Africa to heed the call and adhere to Level 3 COVID-19 adjustments. Under level 3:

  • All indoor and outdoor gathering have been prohibited for 14 days.
  • Funerals not more than 50 people.
  • Alcohol sales have been banned.
  • All beaches, dams, lakes in hotspot areas must be closed from midnight.

The government also said lockdown restrictions of Level 3 will remain in place until the 15th of January 2021.

Some view the move as a deliberate move by President Cyril Ramaphosa to crawl towards level 5

South Africa is the most hit African country and the second wave is threatening to do more harm especially after an aggressive coronavirus variant is reported to have been detected in the country.
