Patriotic Front Interim President Darrel Collet Steps Down

Opposition party The Patriotic Front (TPF) has announced the resignation of its founding interim president Darrel Collet due to old age and health problems earlier this week.

The party’s National Executive Council met last week on Thursday and resolved to accept Collet’s resignation.

The NEC also resolved that the two Vice Presidents, Messrs Anele Ndlovu and Patrick Matsinanhise, will lead the Third Way to its inaugural Congress, slated for 2021. The party said in a statement:

While alternating between the posts of Acting President and Vice President, the duo will continuously work hand-in-glove – in a clear-cut procedure, to implement decisions of the NEC, as they lead TPF into being a full-fledged mass-movement capable of delivering total emancipation and the restoration of power back in the hands of the people of Zimbabwe.

The culture, vision, ideals, aims and programmes of TPF remain unchanged, as we continue to break new ground by building a party that works on the will of the collective, for the benefit of the collective: a party with a life of its own, divorced from the individuals who member and lead it.

We take pride in being arguably the only party in Zimbabwe not built around personalities and where the leader can step down as and when the circumstances do not allow for them to continue and this should prove that TPF is a different party – the one Zimbabweans have been waiting for all along.
