Zimbabwe To Review 10 PM Closure Of Beitbridge Border Post

The Zimbabwean government has hinted at keeping the border with South Africa open for 24 hours a day after humongous queues formed at the Beitbridge Border Post in the past few days.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana posted on Twitter that the government was making efforts to find a solution that works for both the Zimbabwean and South African side of the border. Said Mangwana:

We have been made aware of the situation at Beitbridge Border Post. Whilst the bottleneck is not on the Zimbabwean side, efforts are in motion to arrive at a solution that works for both sides of the border, that includes a possible review of the 2200 hours closure of the Border.

… The delay is on the South African side where only one window is open.

Travellers are now spending up to three days at the border, COVID-19 screening cited as the major cause for the delays in the movement of both vehicular and human traffic.
