ED Fires Suspended NetOne CEO Who Could 'Only Be Fired By ED'

The Netone Board this past week reportedly sought President Mnangagwa’s approval to terminate the contract of suspended NetOne CEO Lazarus Muchenje, ZimMorning Post reports. Insiders privy to the development reportedly said Muchenje had always said no one besides Mnangagwa could terminate his contract.

A source that spoke to the publication said the court case of Muchenje challenging his suspension was dragging on as judges failed to deliver judgment on the issue:

The case was brought before Chinamora who failed to pass the judgement four months down the line. NetOne had to write to Chiweshe but even up to now there is no response.

The urgency of the application has since ceased to make sense and has put the efficiency of the justice delivery system on the spotlight in protecting the government interests in NetOne

However, the board reportedly sought permission from President Mnangagwa to terminate Muchenje’s contract in terms of the Public Entities and Corporate governance Act who granted the request:

The approval was granted and on Friday a termination letter was served to Muchenje while he was at the magistrate courts.

Muchenje is facing a sea of abuse of office charges and in one of the cases, ZACC and CID Serious Frauds Unit are preferring criminal charges on alleged reports of financial illicit dealings at the state-owned telecommunication company according to the publication.
