Speeding Truck Kills 2 Elephants

A speeding coal mining dump 40 tonnes truck belonging to Zambezi Gas and Coal Mine reportedly hit and killed 2 elephants last week in Hwange, Newsday reports.

According to the publication, these are some of the reasons which might have caused the unfortunate incident that killed and female elephant and her calf.

  1. The truck driver was speeding
  2. The Vehicle had poor lighting due to faulty headlights.

Zambezi Gas reportedly dismissed the incident and called it an accident, on another note, Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority decided to investigate the accident according to ZimParks Spokesperson Tinashe Farawo:

It is unfortunate that two elephants have been killed by a truck in a road accident in Hwange. We are investigating the circumstances around the issue.

Wildlife conservationists in the Hwange are have asked miners in the coal mining town to exercise caution to protect wild animals. The speed liming in the mine is 40 km/h.
