Govt Renames Excelsior Primary School In Vumba Joshua Nkomo School

Excelsior Primary School in Vumba will now be called Joshua Nkomo School according to Vice President Kembo Mohadi, The Sunday Mail reports.

Mohadi made this announcement as he was handing over a refurbished classroom block that was refurbished by the Development Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ) which is chaired by Mohadi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mohadi said:

We are renaming this school after the liberation war icon and Father Zimbabwe, the late Cde Joshua Nkomo.

He was instrumental in the formation of this school by virtue of his immense contribution to the formation of the Development Trust of Zimbabwe.

The renaming of the school becomes part of a broader initiative meant to restore pride in our identity and history as well as celebrate the life of our leaders both the living and departed.

Mohadi reportedly said the government will continue to rename institutions to honor the country’s heroes. He is also responsible for oversees the renaming of institutions with colonial-era names according to the publication.
