Ten Men Arsenal Draw With Southampton

Arsenal secured a hard-fought point last night when they came back in the second half to draw 1-1 with Southampton following a poor first half.

The Saints led at half time Walcott’s fine chip but got back on level terms in the 52nd minute when Aubameyang ended his goal drought after some brilliant build-up play from Saka.

The Gunners struggled to create anything in the way of clear-cut chances in the first half with McCarthy’s save from Saka’s deflected cross the closest they came.

The Gunners’ torrid run looked set to continue as they trailed at the break thanks to Walcott’s brilliantly taken goal in the 18th minute.

A perfectly weighted through-ball from Adams put Walcott one-on-one with the Gunners goal minder, Leno, and the former Arsenal man made no mistake, chipping the keeper beautifully to break the deadlock.

It’s no more than Southampton deserved as they have looked by far the better side.

From nowhere, the home side equalised after Saka skipped past Walker-Peters and Romeu before playing it to Nketiah who crossed for Aubameyang to finish with ease.

Arsenal were reduced to 10 men after Gabriel was shown a second yellow for bringing Walcott down after he had turned him brilliantly.
