2nd Wave: COVID-19 Deaths In Zimbabwe Rise To 313

Zimbabwe’s Coronavirus/COVID-19 related deaths have risen to 313 following the death of 3 more cases on the 16th of December.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care indicated in a statement that the fatalities were recorded in Harare Province (1) and Manicaland Province (2).

The development comes when Zimbabwe has been hit by the second wave of the coronavirus prompting authorities to contemplate reimposing another lockdown.

Of course, the first wave did not hit the country as badly as others had feared, but, as the second wave has hit the nation, with its health system in shambles and health workers still incapacitated, many fear we may not be as lucky.

At the current pace, new cases and fatalities might end up surpassing the numbers recorded during the first wave.

What is more worrying is that most of the cases recorded recently are local cases and it is difficult to contain the spread especially when the general populace is so complacent.

Authorities still underscore the importance of adhering to COVID-19 measures stipulated by the government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) to curb the transmission and spread of the virus.
