ZIMRA Goes Digital On Custom Clearance Certificates For Vehicle Imports

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has announced that it is automating the generation of Custom Clearance Certificates for all imported new or second-hand motor vehicles.

According to ZIMRA Public Notice 73 of 2020, the new development is meant to improve the turnaround time for clearance of motor vehicles at Ports of entry.

It will also help in plugging out revenue leakages by removing manual capturing of Customs Clearance Certificates.

All importers who intend to import new or second-hand motor vehicles into the country are now required to have the following motor vehicle details on supporting documents such as invoices and bills of lading before submitting their declaration to ZIMRA:

  • Engine number
  • Chassis Number
  • Make and Model
  • Year of Manufacture

ZIMRA said the information is required for capturing on the bills of entry so that the Customs Clearance Certificate generates automatically from the system.
