Prosecutor Suspended For Consenting To Granting Taj Abdul Bail

Prosecutor General Kumbirai Hodzi has suspended prosecutor Tapiwa Kasema for consenting to the granting of bail to Musa Taj Abdul alias Musa Mohammed and his co-accused who have been on the police wanted list for 20 years.

On Monday High Court Judge Justice Benjamin Chikowero granted bail to Abdul (47) along with co-accused Godfrey Mupamhanga (27), Rudolf Tapiwa Kanhanga (29) and Douglas Mutenda (31).

The four, however, remained in remand prison as they are facing fresh charges.

Chief Law Officer Justin Uladi confirmed Kasema’s suspension saying the matter has been referred to the police for investigations.

Uladi also revealed that they are preparing to launch an appeal against the High Court decision to grant bail to the hardcore criminals.

Before the suspects could post bail money on Tuesday, police brought up fresh charges against them.

Police requested that they remain in custody pending their remand hearing on the new charges and further investigations.
