2021 First Term To Start On 4 January, Govt 'Clarifies' On School Reopening
All schools will open on 4 January for the first 2021 term including the current Form Four pupils who will be expected to finish their examinations which spilt into 2021.
State media reports on Sunday had quoted a senior official in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education saying that there will be a phased approach to the reopening of schools, with the First Term commencing in February.
However, Ministry of Education Director of Communications, Taungana Ndoro said there are no changes in the 2021 school calendar and there will be no phased reopening.
Refuting reports over the weekend, Ndoro said all classes, except pupils enrolling for Form One and Form Five who will wait for examination results, will open on 4 January. He said:
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education would like to set the record straight that schools will open on 4 January 2021 and not in a phased approach as has been announced on Sunday by one news report.

Schools will open on 4 January and secondary school classes opening are Form Two, Three, Four and Six.
On Sunday Ndoro was quoted as having said that schools will once again reopen in a phased approach in 2021 with only those in Form Four this year returning on 4 January, the rest coming back to school in February. Ndoro had said on Saturday:
We are opening schools on January 4, 2021, to allow the Ordinary Level candidates to finish their examinations.
Other returning pupils will have to come in February most probably after the Form 4 students finish their examinations.
