Twimbos React To Tendai Biti's Arrest And Detention

The arrest, and subsequent detention of Tendai Biti yesterday had been met with mixed feelings on Twitter with many Twimbos( Zimbabweans on Twitter) claiming it was a political arrest while others are saying it was gender based violence and he should have been arrested. Here are some of the reactions to the MDC T VP’s arrest and detention over calling someone an idiot:

Men will always defend abusers in positions of power. No one should be threatened  and verbally abused for having a different opinion. Biti was out of order. I do not tolerate abusive men in anyplace. Biti was abusive and must face the law #16DaysOfActivismAgainstGBV

We call out Idiots every day because they are many in Zimbabwe including those governing us. If that is a crime then the majority of the voting population should be in jail. The arrest of our Vice President Tendai Biti for allegedly calling a Russian woman idiot is a new low.

I think we’re mixing 2 separate issues, Biti’s conduct vs the equal application of the law.

If any Joe Blogs go to CID Law& Order to report this case, wld the accused be thrown into jail? If our answer is No then what’s happening to Biti is wrong.

 

MDC Alliance

1. VP @BitiTendai is awaiting the start of his hearing. He reiterates that the real issue is his involvement in litigation concerning the Airport Rd scandal involving Augur Investments. The corrupt deal prejudiced @cohsunshinecity  of thousands of hectares of land.
2. On 30 Nov 2020, VP  @BitiTendai , in the course & scope of representing his client (a victim of the corrupt deal), complained to the magistrate about the unlawful interference with the prosecution by Tatiana Aleshini who is neither a witness or complainant in his client’s case.
3. Tatiana Aleshini advanced at VP @BitiTendai  & protested the mention of her name in court. She threatened to “report him to Ken Sharpe” while menacingly pointing her finger at him. He stated that lawyers have the right to represent their clients. There was no physical assault.
4. He denies committing any offence or otherwise threatening or assaulting her. “There is no substance to the charges,” he says. VP @BitiTendai  is the one went to @PoliceZimbabwe  on his own to clear his name after the story appeared in the newspapers. While there, he was detained

 

Alex Magaisa 

The regime will continue to turn the screws against opposition leaders. It does this to flaunt raw power. The police routinely process cases of common assault without committing an accused to detention. In this case there’s not even an allegation of physical assault or harm.

What happened to the police “investigation” into Chinamasa’s incitement of ZanuPF hordes? 

Like their promised investigations of 2008 violence… Aug 2018 Harare killings,  January 2019 killings, torture,  abductions, etc etc. Is this really the best they can do?
