A suspected land baron has been arrested by the Police Anti-Corruption Unit’s Harare provincial task force on land barons.
Judith Muhlahleni was arrested on charges of selling land illegally in Harare’s Warren Park suburb.
Muhlahleni allegedly parcelled out residential stands illegally in Warren Park. She is alleged to have destroyed the perimeter wall of an old widow, Gogo Sonzinya, in order to sell some of her land.
Muhlahleni is expected in court soon.
In October, police arrested 6 land barons in Harare, and the suspects were identified as Revai Desha (42), Naboth Munyengera (47), Sophia Chiswede (44), Rosemary Mhaka, Tranos Muzambi (49) and Philbert Madziya (48).
Over the past few years, land barons have seized unoccupied State land, sometimes from moribund cooperatives, and subdividing and selling this land, but without providing services such as roads, sewers and water supply.
