2 Zimbos Get The Rhodes Scholarship

2 Zimbabwean students have reportedly bagged the prestigious Rhodes scholarship to study at a top UK University, the University of Oxford, Newsday reports. The beneficiaries  Tafadzwa Kufazvinei (medicine) and Brendon Tankwa (engineering) will start studying at Oxford in October 2021.

This was revealed in a statement by Rhodes Trust Tariro Makadzange who said:

All candidates have outstanding academic achievements and a keen focus on transformative leadership in their communities and beyond. The talent in our young people, despite the challenges that the country faces, provides significant hope for the future

Each year, two Zimbabwean Rhodes scholars are selected on the basis of their intellect, character, leadership and commitment to service to join other Rhodes scholars from around the world at the University of Oxford.

According to the publications Rhodes Scholars usually go on to serve in many sectors including but not limited to:  education, the arts, non-governmental organizations, commerce, research, and other sectors.
