Govt Refutes John Tallach School Death Rumours

The government has dismissed social media rumours claiming that one student from John Tallach, a mission school in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North, 40km outside Bulawayo, had died of COVID-19.

Matabeleland North acting provincial medical director Padingani Munepati said all students and teachers are stable and no-one has died.

The school was quarantined early this week after 122 pupils, including teachers, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus that causes the disease called COVID-19.

The Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland-run school was quarantined to curb the spread of the virulent disease.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has set up a temporary clinic at the school and stopped people from coming in or going out at the institution.
