Japhet Shamba, an uncle of Tafadzwa Shamba, the Murehwa herdsman who confessed to killing seven-year-old Tapiwa Makore, committed suicide on Tuesday morning.
Japhet (33), from Chinyani village under Chief Mangwende, had been missing from the homestead since last Thursday.
His body was found hanging on a tree a few metres from his homestead, NewsDay cited its police sources as saying.
Japhet was staying with his grandmother and he left a suicidal note stating that he regretted exhausting all the maize and peanut seeds from her granary.
Murehwa villagers believe Japhet’s untimely death was caused by Tapiwa’s spirit which was now avenging the Shamba family for his death at the hands of Tafadzwa.
Tapiwa is yet to be buried as his head and hands are still missing.
