Zimbabweans Skeptical About New Economic Blueprint

Zimbabweans have expressed scepticism about the effectiveness of the newly-launched economic blueprint by the government.

On Monday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) at State House in Harare.

In a post on Facebook this Tuesday, the President said NDS1 is a five-year programme that seeks to create 760,000 new jobs, bring inflation down to between 3-7% by 2025 and expand the economy by 5% year on year.

Here are some of the responses to President Mnangagwa’s post:

Sekuru Chipiso: Credibility is easy to lose once people realize you are not genuine. You have said this since assuming power that your government will create jobs, build 5 million houses and revive the economy.

However, you have nothing to show; save for creating looting opportunities for your clansmen. Can you give us a blueprint of how you intend to achieve this, we need at least a roadmap. Kwete zvekuhumana pasina clear direction.

Nicky Bennett: When we say that economy is in the hands of citizens we mean it. The government is doing a splendid job on setting VAT and all deductions at an international level for jobless citizens. Does that make sense?

The government should remove all their policies on trading to enable citizens to do what they can to overcome economic hardships.

It was a very good example of Ginimbi even though the government was punishing him for buying his cars abroad.

During Ian Smith government there were no such policies so does Zimbabwe government think that they know better than the previous white people governance?

The government purpose is to keep the country safe from terrorist whilst citizens get on with any sort of business to rule out poverty which seems as if that’s Zimbabwe’s normality.

How could people come from fighting for independence and know what’s best for the country? Zimbabwe government is the enemy of Zimbabwe and they have and will keep on ruining the economy in the pretence that they are building the economy.

Zimbabweans don’t need lectures on how to fend for themselves they already know what is good for them and not getting given massive farmland which they can’t manage ending up with nothing. Presidents are for the office and not trade and industries.

Trooper Angel: Mr Munangagwa how about you start by rebuilding the infrastructure of the country from the profits that come from the country’s mineral resources so that the schools and hospitals will have better facilities and more hospitals can be available, and the schools can also have all the facilities for education, also new schools can be open, not for the profits of the minerals to go in you stuff members pockets.

Rodreck Tapiwa: When is the looting of our resources going to stop, Chinese degrading our motherland, Russians looting on the other side, CCTV cameras at International airport switched to enable the looters to steal, for how long has this been going on, the application of justice is selective, what exactly is going on?
