Lafarge Attributes Cement Shortage To High Demand

Lafarge, a cement producing company, has at some point been out of stock in some retail outlets and building material warehouses in most towns and cities recently.

The company has attributed cement shortages to high demand on the product since the re-opening of the economy.

In July, Lafarge recorded its highest sales for the same month, since 2003.

The company also argues that stability in the exchange rate has also seen product prices stabilising.

Some attribute the high consumption to ongoing national projects which include the Zimbabwean Parliament in Mt Hampden, rehabilitation of bridges and schools across the country.

There has also been a lot of activity in various towns as individuals and private companies continued erecting structures despite the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

The shortage of cement could have far-reaching consequences on the construction industry.

Earlier, Concrete and Cement Institute of Zimbabwe member, Mr Monday Moyo, said cement was usually in high demand in summer.
