Information Officers Urged To Highlight Success Stories

The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa has urged information officers to highlight success stories of tobacco farmers and gold miners who are contributing much to the country’s economic growth.

Senator Mutsvangwa made the remarks while officially opening her ministry’s 2021 strategic plan meeting in Kariba. She said:

By and large the repression and decay of the past have been dispensed with. Henceforth the challenge for information is to seize the future as game-changing reforms in economics and finance take hold and deepen. The public has been gripped by a new sense of self-confidence as consumers too. The business sector is bullish as they produce in a more predictable market environment. Our task as information officers is to be alive to this new vista of opportunities.

We must tell stories of the plucky 190 000 TIMB registered contract farmers who have contributed billions to the national fiscus. Year after year the golden leaf sales since 2004 have rendered singular success to the historic Land Reform.

While the government believes the public is not well informed about achievements made by the incumbent government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, some say authorities are amplifying their success stories.

Some believe the government is failing to fulfil its election promises as targets such as employment creation, improvement of living standards and stabilisation of the economy remain a pie in the air.

Zimbabwe still has the issues which the second republic pledged to “tackle head-on,” some have deepened while some new challenges are emerging each day.
