Benyu, Darikwa Wait For Zim Passports Ahead Of AFCON Qualifiers

Wealdstone midfielder Kundai Benyu has started the process of acquiring a new Zimbabwean passport in London ahead of the Warriors’ back-to-back AFCON qualifiers next month.

Benyu, who was born in the United Kingdom, recently joined Wealdstone in England’s fifth tier league having formerly been on the books of Scottish giants, Glasgow Celtic.

Benyu last played for Zimbabwe in 2017 in a friendly match against Namibia but is expected to be part of the national team squad for the AFCON qualifiers.

The 22-year-old was named in the selection for the match against Malawi early this month but failed to travel to join the team because his passport had expired.

Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa is also waiting to get a new passport after he lost his. He submitted the application two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Queens Park Rangers striker and Reading midfielder, Macauley Bonne and Andy Rinomhota respectively, are thought to have lost interest in playing for Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe will go into the biggest battle of their 2022 Africa Cup Nations Group H qualifying campaign when they visit African champions Algeria.

After the first leg in Algiers on November 12, the Warriors will host the Desert Foxes at the National Sports Stadium four days later.
