Muchehiwa Abduction-linked MDC-A Official To Know Fate Soon
MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende has said the party’s women assembly’s chairperson for Bulawayo Province Tendai Masotsha will know her fate soon following the conclusion of investigations into her alleged involvement in the abduction of a journalism student on 30 July this year.
Tawanda Muchehiwa, a Midlands State University (MSU) second-year journalism student was abducted by 5 armed assailants in Bulawayo ahead of the July 31 anti-corruption protests and tortured for three days.
Masotsha was suspended by the MDC Alliance Bulawayo Province on allegations that she was involved in Muchehiwa’s abduction.
Hwende revealed that a report on the party’s internal investigations into Masotsha’s alleged involvement was only submitted to the party leadership this week for debate at the national council (NC).
Hwende added that the matter has been tabled before the NC since Masotsha is a senior member, and the NC is the only body that can discuss that matter and take appropriate action. Said Hwende:

In his account, Muchehiwa, who is the nephew of ZimLive editor Mduduzi Mathuthu, insinuated that Masotsha set up his abduction.
Masotsha has denied the allegations, saying they were concocted to fight her along factional lines.
She claimed that she was also kidnapped on the same day as Muchehiwa and later dumped close to her home the following day.
