Fake Police Officers Rob Teacher Of US$500

Three armed robbers pretending to be police officers recently robbed a teacher at Kazozo secondary school in Ruwangwe in Nyanga North of US$502 and other valuables.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident adding that investigations were underway.

Kakohwa said the teacher – Taurai James Mudzudza – was sleeping around midnight when he was awakened by a member of the gang who was calling pretending to be a police officer.

When the complainant went to check on the person who was calling, the pistol-wielding robbers armed asked him to surrender everything in his possession.

He surrendered his cell phone and wallet that had no money. Unfortunately, one of the suspects reportedly went into Mudzudza’s bedroom, searched the wardrobe, and took US$502.

The gang member then returned the complainant’s cell phone and his national identity card before they disappeared into the darkness.

Mudzudza filed a report at ZRP Ruwangwe station who attended the scene.

Inspector Kakohwa urged members of the public not to keep large sums of money in their houses to reduce the risk of losing money to robbers.

He also said people should also ask for police identification cards before opening their doors to strangers.

This is happening when teachers in government schools are earning an average of USD30 per month. They are refusing to go back to work demanding the restoration of their 2018 salaries which were around USD500.
