Recording Absolving Guvamombe From Criminal Abuse Of Office Charges Missing – Report

A recording that contained the proceedings of a tribunal that could absolve former chief magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe from his alleged offense of criminally abusing his office is reportedly missing, Newsday reports.

The matter came to light in court where Justice Felistas Chatukuta heard that the full recording has gone missing, and the court was reportedly adjourned 3 times yesterday as the state and Guvamombe’s lawyer reportedly tried to find a way forward.

The first reason that caused the adjournment according to the publication was the missing recording when the state availed a few pages and not the full recording.

The second reason that made the court adjourn again was when the state tried to submit evidence in the form of documents it supposedly supplied the defense which denied receiving the evidence.

Guvamombe is facing criminal abuse of office charges and is accused of accepting former Cabinet Minister Supa Mandiwanzira and Saviour Kasukuwere as students on attachment when they were facing criminal charges. However, according to the publication, the state’s witness regional magistrate Elijah Singano:

Singano said he was the provincial magistrate for Harare province when Mandiwanzira and Kasukuwere were deployed for attachment by the UZ, adding since both were facing criminal charges, they were posted to the civil courts where they were later withdrawn after concerns had been raised about them.

He said as students there was no anomaly, adding the two were part of over 40 students that had been referred by the university for attachment.

He further said there was nothing barring the duo from being attached to the JSC as students because the Constitution says they are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court of law.
