Zimbabwe Warriors, Malawi Friendly Ends In Stalemate

Zimbabwe Warriors and the Flames of Malawi Sunday played out a 0-0 draw in a FIFA international friendly match played in Blantyre.

The Warriors who were captained by Kaizer Chiefs’ Khama Billiat had poor preparations for the match while Malawi were coming from another friendly with Zambia in Lusaka where they lost 1-0.

Zimbabwe saw some of the key players including Lyon’s Tino Kadewere and Queens Park Rangers Macauley Bonne withdrew from the match at the last hour.

The Flames gave the first threat in the opening 20 minutes but the visitors were able to drop deep and absorb any potential danger coming their way.

Malawi still controlled large parts of the encounter but their Gabadinho Mhango who plays for Orlando Pirates missed some few chances including a sitter from a well-played through ball towards the end of the first half.

Zimbabwe was using the friendly as preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Algeria which was scheduled for next month.

The Warriors are in Group H together with log leaders Algeria, Zambia and Botswana and they sit on number two on the log with four points from two matches.

Algeria has six points while Botswana and Zambia, in that order, have one and zero also from two matches.
